Chapter Sixteen

“Is that the last team with a net, Me’Elesi?” Elleaine asked me, noticing two more women rushing towards us while carrying a net in their hands.

“Seems that way,” I said, having a cheeky smirk on my face. The thing was, none of the teams who have brought the nets back had Selinna in them and she wasn’t part of the last team that was coming back either. I don’t know why, but I was looking forward to hearing her excuses for not being able to bring a net back.

“What have you planned for the training after they come back, Me’Elesi?” Elleaine asked me.

“Something that will test how strong people really are,” I said, becoming serious.

“What do you mean, Me’Elesi?” Elleaine turned to face me, tilting her head to the side.

“Well…” I showed a mild smile.

“Hmm? Will we be participating as well?” She asked, smiling back at me.

“Eh, no,” I said.

“Is everything ok, Me’Elesi?” Elleaine asked, noticing something in me that made her worry for some reason.

“Yes. Just remembered something. That’s all,” I said.

“Do you want to talk about it?” Elleaine asked again, turning to face me fully.

“Not right now. I need to prepare the next stage of training,” I said, showing a smile.

“You know you can tell me anything, Me’Elesi,” Elleaine said before taking my right hand with both of hers.

“Yes, I will,” I said before pulling her closer into my embrace, Elleaine hugging me back. It was a sweet moment, with both of us enjoying it quietly. “I love you, Elleaine.” I said after pulling back a little.

“I love you, Nanax,” Elleaine called me by my previous name before kissing me. I already knew she loved my Chieftain’s given name. As much as I would’ve loved to hold Elleaine in my arms for longer we had limited time because more people were coming back from the village, with the team carrying the last net being only a short distance away from us.

“Hello, sir TC. We have brought the net back,” one of the women from the team said after they finally reached us.

“Hi and welcome back. Good work you two,” I said, getting back into the training mood. “Let me take the net from you for now. Please, go join the others to continue your training. Talk to Meera and Narima over there to find out what you will need to do next.”

“Ok, sir TC,” the women said before leaving us.

“Humph…” I smiled sheepishly before my mind drifted somewhere towards my past again.

“Why the sad face, Me’Elesi?” Elleaine asked, making me lift my head to look at her.

“Mhm…” I wanted to say something but was interrupted by Elleaine kissing me again.

“There will be more of that after the training is over,” Elleaine said, her passionate eyes gazing into mine.

“Ah… Yes, please,” I said, perking up, making Elleaine show me the sweetest smile in response.

The five wagons and five nets were brought back, but not all the trainees were back from the village yet. I thought I’ll wait for a while longer until more people come back.
